CIFE/SPS VDC Program

As business climates become increasingly complex and dynamic, owners and operators are adopting new approaches for the delivery of capital projects such as Integrated Project Delivery and Lean Construction to name a few. These approaches are based on processes that are best enabled through the use of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) methodologies and tools. To support owner operators and AEC / EPC firms in the development of VDC capability, CIFE and SPS have developed this certificate program. CIFE and SPS team members have been collaborating in technical development and best practice implementation of VDC for over fifteen years.

Scope & Objectives

VDC Certificate Program participants will gain an understanding of how a step change in overall project outcomes can be created through the use of VDC methodologies and tools across the total project life cycle (project definition, design, engineering, construction including fabrication, commissioning, and facility management).

The main focus of the VDC Certificate Program is Professional Education through which participants will:

Understand basic VDC theory and practice including concepts of VDC models, model-based analysis, collaborative model-based development and management.
Develop awareness of VDC trends, potential results and issues in using VDC.
Develop specific skills in collaborative use of VDC methods. Participants will plan and manage at least one of their own projects using VDC methods and collaboratively report and discuss their successes and challenges.

Who Should Participate

Owners, operators, program / construction managers, general contractors, designers, specialty contractors, and technology vendors with an interest in obtaining / supporting better project outcomes through VDC enabling processes and tools. Project managers, program managers, architects, engineers, design managers, project executives / sponsors, owner representatives and business consultants will all benefit from the VDC Certificate Program.
